We are definitely partial to a macaron and a martini here at Temple Gregory, so love this from OhLaLa.
OhLaLa (a luxury food and drink events company) is now offering a Macaron and Martini Masterclass. Ideal for hen parties, bridal treats or gifts.
The masterclass will cost from £80 per person, and can be hosted at a number of luxury locations throughout London, or they can even come to you. There are also Macaron and Tea Masterclasses available.
OhLaLa will be taking up residence in some of London’s finest venues, holding intimate classes (up to 16 guests at a time) run by world-class pâtissiers from the likes of Zuma and Granger & Co. As first discussed last week, our clients often ask us about entertainment ideas for their weddings and events – usually wanting something different and something their guests will remember and be talking about for a while! Over the next few weeks we will be looking at various options on the blog and you may have seen our post last week, Entertainment – Celebrity Guest.
This week we are going to look at food and drink. This may not be an area that immediately springs to mind when it comes to entertainment as food and drink are usually just a given. This is true, but why not use it to wow your guests and try out a few different things?!
Rather than just your traditional bar, why not have a few pretty drinks stations as well – manned by mixologists who can whip up cocktails for your guests? Frozen fruit stirrers and flower filled ice cubes can also be very pretty for a summer event.
There is no doubt that guests like to be fed and what better to get the party started than with special and plentiful canapes. Speak to your venue or caterers about the different options and what you can do to make things look pretty as well as taste great. Use inventive ways of displaying and presenting the canapes too, as that makes a huge difference.
A dessert or sweet/candy table is another popular way of entertaining guests and is always very popular. It is not a new thing, so just try to be inventive in what you have on it and in the way that you display.
A few other different ideas for your wedding or event could be to use doughnuts, margarita ice lollies, heart sugar cubes, gourmet jelly shots or even Baileys (or milk) and cookies? There really are no limits – think about what you like and then how you can incorporate that into your day.
We are all about luxury here at Temple Gregory so we were delighted to hear that luxury London store Fortnum & Mason has launched a stunning wedding cake collection – inspiration taken from the 18th century, which was when Fortnum & Mason originally opened.
There are 6 cakes in the collection (starting at £500) and each of these can be customised to suit you, in terms of size, colours and shape – with 8 sponge flavours and an array of fillings as well as the traditional fruitcake.
You can attend a champagne afternoon tea cake tasting (how lovely!) and once you have made your decision, you are presented with a hand-drawn sketch of your chosen cake design.
This first cake below (my favourite!) is called the Georgian Porcelain – inspired by the beautiful porcelain of that Georgian era.
This next cake is the Cameo – which was inspired by Queen Charlotte’s love of cameos and silhouettes.
This cake below is the Blossom – inspired by delicate wedding blooms and covered with petals falling like confetti. Each of the tiny petals is made by hand.
The cake below is the Tea Rose – Fortnum & Mason has a long history of selling tea, and they are very fond of roses too, (which are used on their groceries and confectionery) so that was the inspiration behind this design.
This next beauty is the Ruffle – a richly textured cake with a design reminiscent of garters and petticoats – topped with an elegant, handmade sugar flower, a reference to a popular Georgian craft.
Last but not least is the Georgian Lace – inspired by Georgian lace, which tended to be less frilly than later Victorian patterns and is therefore more in keeping with modern trends.
You know if you have a wedding cake from Fortnum & Mason that only the very best ingredients will be used. Your cake is likely to include several of Fortnum’s exclusive products, such as Sandringham Coffee, Rose Petal Jelly, Tercentenary Chocolate or Fortnum’s Cognac!
They also offer wedding favours in the form of matching, hand-iced biscuits, which in turn can be customised to match your cake.
What do you think – would you like one of these stunning cakes for your wedding? x
“Truly loving another means letting go of all expectations. It means full acceptance, even celebration of another’s personhood.” (Karen Casey)
Ladies, Valentines Day is almost upon us and I know that not everyone will want to be blowing the budget! We watch romantic movies and wish that our man would whisk us off to Paris or fill a restaurant with a million red roses. This however does not happen to majority of us, but don’t worry you are not alone on this and we can still create a “home made” night of romance.
We may like the idea of rustling up a 5 course meal, but really?! Especially on a Tuesday! You want to enjoy yourself and I doubt you want to spend the whole day in the kitchen. From experience you end up spending more on ingredients anyway, and you’ll end up tired, with burnt food and sauce running down your dress! Instead why not try something easy or even a Forman & Field hamper?! Would be nice to have a valentines hamper picnic in the comfort of your own home.
Pretty scented candles are a must for a night in on Valentines Day. Lighting is so important and really helps to create romantic atmosphere. Pic via Style Me Pretty.
These pretty champagne coupes (seen on Inspired Design) would be perfect for your Valentines Day champagne. Love them for weddings too!
Strawberries dipped in chocolate are another of my favourites for a romantic night in – as well as being delicious they are also one of your 5 a day and go beautifully with champagne! I usually go for the Godiva ones, but I have made them myself before, so you could try that if you would prefer.
Just because you are staying in don’t be tempted to sit around in your pyjamas (this applies to me too!)! Dressing for the occasion will make it that extra bit special. It doesn’t mean you have to buy something new though – just dig out one of your old favourites – or maybe try a bit of customisation? This dress below is a cheap New Look dress customised with an underskirt and belt for me by my clever crafty friend!
Have lovely Valentines Day wherever you are and whatever you do – Svetlana x
“Kissing your hand may make you feel very good, but a diamond lasts forever.” (Anita Loos)
Valentine’s Day is all about love. The sort of love that will make your eyes fill with happy tears, make your knees go weak and your heart rate increase! I experienced it very recently on my last trip to Harrods, where I walked past the De Beers jewels! Now that was love at first sight 😉
De Beers are not the cheapest for jewellery, but worth every sparkly penny! One of our Temple Gregory brides recently went there to view wedding bands and that is not all they came out with! The staff are lovely and the best bit is you get a brochure from them when new pieces come in, which you can strategically place so your other half sees! How beautiful is this Kiss of The Rose Ring…
I am sure we are all aware of the most luxurious and sought after restaurants out there, and I can’t be the only one still waiting for a table at The Fat Duck – but the one restaurant that remains my true love is Nobu, Berkeley St. It’s stylish and sophisticated and covers all aspects of a perfect Valentine’s date! I would highly recommend their Japanese mojito 🙂
So ladies, we have talked about the perfect diamonds and extravagant date, but a wardrobe full of clothes means nothing to wear right?! We really want the diamonds to be the star of the show, so a little black dress would be perfect. Zac Posen immediately springs to mind for me – detailed enough not to be boring yet simple enough to show off your other sparkly assets!
What do you think – sound like the perfect Valentines Day? I just need to leave this post where my other half will see it now!
