Well, after all of the hype the London 2012 Olympics are here and it is the opening ceremony today! I must admit, living in London, I have had mixed feelings about the Olympics being here.
On the negative side, there are a billion more tourists, roads and other transport is a million times worse than normal, I would not even attempt to go near any central London shops (which I actually need to) and I cannot get to my local Waitrose! Oh, and if I accidentally drive in a lane designated for the Olympics I get a big automatic fine!!
That all said, I am starting to get in the spirit of things the closer we get and I do want our GB Team to do well. I do also think it is very cool that Stella McCartney designed the GB team kit!
Tower Bridge looks great at night too – they were even rehearsing some kind of fireworks show from it the other day, so I think that Tower Bridge is going to be playing a big part in the celebrations which is nice. This is one of my Instagram pics.
I know quite a few people are having parties and get togethers tonight to celebrate the opening ceremony. How about a bit of themed decoration and/or food?!
We were there with Gaucho so got to have a gorgeous champagne lunch there, before being whisked off to the Polo. The food was fabulous and we loved the sparkly floor in the loo’s!
We were in the Gaucho tent, but were also right next door to the Mahiki tent – 2 of our favourite places! We were tempted by the treasure chest, but thought best not between 2 of us and so stuck to champagne!
Although we were obviously not complaining about having to stick to the champagne… such a hard life!
Unlike last year at Ascot, we did actually see horses this time – we were sitting right in front of the pitch so would have been hard not to! Ooh, look at that grey sky!
In between matches they put on some horse acrobatic shows – people jumping and diving all over the place, whilst on horses – amazing!
We did not actually have any Pimms, but I thought this cool Pimms bus was worth a photo as would be great for a wedding or event. I bet if it had been a sunny day, this would have been overrun at the Polo!
Another of our favourite things is Harrods, so we were delighted to find they were there supplying lots of yummy food – needed and well deserved at the end of a cold rainy day of Polo – & a little bit of alcohol 😉 !
It was a fab day, I just hope for sun next time as would have been perfect with better weather. Did anyone else go? What did you think? If it is not something you have tried before you should definitely give it a go – also perfect for a hen day or even a corporate event.
As you may know, we had a bit of a soiree at The Savoy in London recently and I wanted to share some of the photos with you as it was such a fabulous night. The party was to celebrate our re-brand and this sparkly new website that we hope you all love!
Svetlana and I want to say thank you to all our guests – it was lovely to have every single one of you there and we are just sorry we did not get more time to chat to everyone. Although event planning is our thing, we could not have done it without all of the lovely suppliers that helped – so thank you to them and thank you to Chanelle and Craig from Segerius Bruce Photography who took these beautiful photos.
A party would not be a party without cocktails and in keeping with our pink colours we had Pink Lady and Strawberry Daiquiri cocktails, which needless to say went down with everyone rather well!
To me, whether it be an event or a wedding, flowers are always play a huge part and really make the design. The lovely Emma Lappin is Temple Gregory’s favourite florist and who else would we ask to do our flowers?! We were delighted to also have Simon & Victoria from Euphoric Flowers on board for the party who collaborated with Emma – what a fabulous team you make. We now have 2 favourite florists!
The beautiful flowers and light colours in their golden urns went with the Savoy Ballroom and our overall scheme so well – fabulous!
We were lucky enough to have this gorgeous dessert table created by the fabulous Crumbs! Couture. Everything was gone by the end of the evening… that says it all!
Harri from Crumbs! Couture is a very clever lady and put together these tasty delights for our guests. We had an array of cupcakes, home-made marshmallow, sumptuous ruffle cake and all kinds of other goodies!
The wonderful luxury stationers Borrowed Blue Press created our invites for the party (you can see the invites here), as well as these beautiful menus for the cocktail bar and dessert table.
As guests arrived they were greeted by the beautiful sound of Harpist Rebecca McGrath. I just love the sound of a harp – perfect for weddings too. A bit later singer Kevin Fitzsimmons took to the stage and entertained guests with his fabulous voice.
We also had special guests Kristina Rihanoff and Robin Windsor from Strictly Come Dancing at the party and after a cocktail and a bit of mingling, they surprised guests by performing a Rumba!
I love strictly so it was fabulous to have Kristina and Robin there – who were both so lovely. You can see a video of their Rumba on our Facebook page.
This is Svetlana and I doing our little speech – look at my fabulous sparkly Olivier Laudus hairband! I did not want to take it off and cannot wait for an excuse to wear it again!
Our dress code was Gorgeous & Glamorous and our guests did not disappoint! Look at the beautiful Anna from wedding blog Far From The Wedding Crowd – very glam indeed.
We had a photo booth at the party, thanks to Hello Foto Booths, and it was a huge hit – constantly full with a que throughout the night!
Svetlana and I were so busy chatting that we almost missed it! Thankfully though we had a quick go at the end and you can see all of the photo booth photos here.
I hope you enjoyed this peak at our party and that you will be on board following the blog going forward. Planning luxury weddings and events is what we do, but we also like to blog here as often as we can – so come back soon.
Big thanks again to all the lovely people that helped make the party happen –
